Shadows of Gods and Men
A five part series in the land of Mura, where fond memories of the past clash with visions of the future, and reality is caught up somewhere in the middle.
Five monarchical dynasties are destined to one day be paid in the gilt of magic promised to their ancestors by the gods. When, and wherefore, are only subjects for theology, and for the even greater breadth of hubris. In the meantime, events.
As is often the case, the world of the high and mighty is altered by those low on the ground. The Brodie family is one such nexus for change; an inventor, his wife, and their children, including Isaac, who saw what should never be seen, and in so doing drew them all in to the planes of godly ambition and arrogance; if they can be differentiated…
Book One, The Voice of Kings (late 2024)
Synopsis
Isaac Brodie knows what he saw. He knows he saw magic in his father’s mine, years gone by. He knows it nearly killed him. He knows too well that others don’t believe. And he knows he has to prove it, if it takes him to the corners of the world. He wants it more than anything in the world.
He doesn’t know just how precious this knowledge is. He doesn’t know that kings and queens would wage war over it. A true knight would die for it. An opportunist would nurture it, against sage advice.
A person of most empathy would not care to touch it, if only to protect innocents from the others. A courageous person might embrace even them.
Isaac dare not predict its epic extent, but all the same, he might let himself dream.
